I can’t take any credit for the idea behind this recipe. It was 100% the taste tester. But really, the taste tester can’t take credit for it either, because he heard it on the radio. A few nights ago, as I was making dinner, he said, what do you think about a burger with sriaracha and peanut butter? I’ll admit, I was perplexed. Peanut butter? On a burger? And, I know this puts me on the wrong side of a hot trend, but I am not the biggest Sriracha fan either. So, it should have come as no surprise when he admitted that the idea was not his own, but instead he heard or read about it at some point during that day.
Still, it got me thinking. What if peanut butter would work on a burger? I had to try it. And the jelly? Well that is the taste tester’s own contribution, as he made the very best homemade burger I have ever eaten a few weeks back and I’m pretty sure jam was the secret ingredient. Maybe he will share is recipe, if you ask really nicely. For now, these will have to do.
- For the Burgers:
- ½ lb. ground beef
- 1 T jam (I used blackberry jalapeño, but grape or blackberry would work)
- 1 T Sriracha (or just use your favorite hot sauce, but adjust to taste)
- 1 egg
- For the Sriracha Peanut Butter:
- 2 T Peanut Butter
- 2 T Sriracha
- 3 T water
- To assemble:
- 6 slider buns
- 3 leaves lettuce, split in half
- 6 slices sharp cheddar
- Sriracha peanut butter sauce
- In a large bowl, mix jam, sriracha and egg. Add ground beef and mash with a fork until combined. Divide into six equal portions and form into six patties.
- Cook burgers to desired temperature using cast iron pan on medium heat or grill pan. During the last two minutes of cook time, top with cheese.
- In the mean time, process sriracha, peanut butter, and water. You can probably just mix in a bowl if you have creamy peanut butter, I only had crunchy.
- Split buns in half and place face down on a baking sheet sprayed with olive oil or cooking spray. Toast in a 400 degree oven for 5-10 minutes.
- Assemble by slathering the bottom of each bun with sriracha peanut butter and topping with burger and lettuce leaf.
- Enjoy!
